The Current Pediatric Emergency Medicine Faculty & Fellows at Orlando Health / Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children
Program Overview
Welcome to the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Orlando Health. Our PEM Fellowship was established in 2008, and its mission is to develop caring, proficient physicians who are leaders and educators in the field of pediatric emergency medicine.
The program is under the Orlando Health Academic Department of Emergency Medicine and based primarily at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, which is a large free standing tertiary children’s hospital in beautiful Central Florida. Our emergency department opened its doors in 2007 and is comprised of 29 beds and 4 trauma bays. It is the only level one trauma center for children in the Central Florida Region. Our annual patient volume is approximately 50,000 visits per year.
The core faculty for the fellowship program includes 9 dedicated pediatric emergency physicians, who are part of the Orlando Health EM Residency Faculty which has 18 EM faculty physicians. We have a close working relationship with all the primary pediatric subspecialists, including pediatric critical care, surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, gastroenterology, hematology-oncology, pulmonology, cardiology, and anesthesiology.
We sponsor two PEM fellowship tracks, one for each type of resident applicant whether emergency medicine or pediatrics. The tracks are of 2 and 3 years duration, respectively, and differ some in content, though remain essentially complimentary.

Both tracks emphasize the role of clinician, educator, and researcher in the field of pediatric emergency medicine. Administrative skills that are essential to be effective advocates for children in the hospital and community setting are also emphasized.
During the fellowship program, fellows rotate through a variety of services outside of our department. Some of these services include:
- Pediatric Surgery
- Trauma Surgery (adult/ped)
- Adult Emergency Medicine
- General Pediatric
- Pediatric Critical Care
- EMS
- Pediatric Cardiology
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- OB/Gyn
- Anesthesia
- Orthopedics
